Lee Swanson, AIA

Lee grew up in the Midwest and had an interest in drawing at an early age. He attended North Dakota State University where he received a Bachelor of Architecture degree and a Minor in the Fine Arts. Lee believes the connection between art and architecture is critical to create inspiring and meaningful spaces.

Lee has been with RKA since 2006 and is a principal at the studio. In his role as Senior Architectural Designer, he has worked on all scales of projects and project types including academic and public libraries, higher education facilities, and embassies and consulates for the U.S. State Department.  He has extensive experience in programming and planning, and is integral in developing the conceptual design, aesthetic character and sustainable strategies that become the framework to specify materials, develop detailing and integrate systems for complex building typologies.

Lee is an advocate for sustainable design and is a LEED Accredited Professional. He is an ALA and AIA member and has worked with the American Institute of Architects on developing educational programs on construction methods for professionals. He continues to create art in his spare time and is passionate about architecture that is sensitive to its place.
